Will a "heavy duty" radiator fit?Rhubarb 04-07-2009, 10:56 AM Well, I have the ever popular leaky driver's side plastic tank on my '99 Tahoe 4x4 5.7 radiator. Right above the oil cooler line. It's weeping out from where the plastic tank crimps on to the aluminum core. Sounds like it's a pretty common occurrence. I've called around town and found NAPA to have the best prices on a replacement. Around $130 for the standard and about $150 for the "heavy Duty" two row. I would like to go for the 2-row but was wondering if it will fit. There are cooling lines going into the left and the right tanks. I assume one side is engine oil and the other side is tranny. Does anyone know if the 'heavy duty" rad will fit? What about other online vendors? I've looked at some all aluminum versions, but they seem pretty spendy. Thanks in advance. caw333 04-07-2009, 11:40 PM It should fit as long as the tanks are the same size cause it is the tanks that the shroud fit around. If you look at the core part of the rad you will notice that there is room in front and behind it. On the pass side you have the tranny lines and on the driver side you have the engine oil cooler lines. I'll try NAPA when I get mine for my 98 cause it has the exact same leak yours has and it was a $150 when I priced it at a rad shop. Rhubarb 04-08-2009, 12:37 PM I went ahead a bought the 2-row "heatbuster" radiator. $167 after taxes. The parts guy at NAPA said it should bolt right in. I'll report my finding after installation. Hopefully I can get to it on my days off. jdmccright 04-10-2009, 03:01 PM I bought a "heavy-duty" 2-3/4" core plastic-aluminum rad from radiators4less on eBay for my '95 C2500. Went in without any major issues. Shroud and all bolted up with no hitches. If you replace the hoses as well, bring in the top hose to match up as the one I was given via the parts computer for a 41" rad ended up being too long (the top-most bend to the thermostat neck was actually hitting the underside of the hood). Also, try to replace the o-rings on the tranny and oil cooler fittings...it's apart, might as well do it. Hope this helps! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
