1995 F150 Dual Tank Fuel Problem

The other day as the truck was running I got into the driver seat and shut the door and the truck died. It showed little over quarter tank on the fuel gauge on the front tank. I then switched the rear tank and the truck started no problem but when I go back to the front tank it dies. I tried putting a little more fuel into the tank and get no results. I am thinking it might be the fuel pump on the front tank. It is my first ford truck and not sure how the whole dual tank set-up works but was wondering if there is possibly be anything else i could try before I go throught the pain in the neck process of droping the tank. Thanks
