Can bad cv joints cause a tranny to slip ect?

No, I don't think so. If the CV joints are bad it will make a ticking sound as you turn left or right. If you have a manual transmission there may be oil on the clutch disc making it slip or if you have an automatic transmission it could be one of the clutch packs slipping from wear or bad servo.

Is it a manual or auto trans??

Usually worn clutch, or contaminated clutch driven plate on manual boxes.
On auto's not so sure, but do they have adjustable brake bands??
