Belt SquealingRailroadman 04-02-2009, 07:28 PM When I first start up my truck the serpentine belts squeals for a couple minutes. Anyone know of cure without replacing belt? Tried belt dressing, emory board no luck! Thanks Railroadman old_master 04-02-2009, 11:36 PM What year and engine, and how many miles on the belt & tensioner? Possibly a worn/weak belt tensioner. Once a serp belt squeals, it's darn near impossible to get it to stop without replacement. The old "V" belts were a whole different ballgame, you could break the glaze very easily on them.... not so much on a serp, too much surface area and too difficult to de-glaze all of the grooves. Railroadman 04-05-2009, 04:55 AM 2.2 liter with about 60,000 on belt and tensioner. Also check my other tread about hard to start 98 sonoma and see if you have any suggestions.
