Chrysler Lebaron 1994 Paint Peeling and window leakingDavid Farsh 03-25-2009, 05:41 PM I drive a 94 chrysler lebaron conv. its got 81000 miles on it and ever since ive got it ive treated it like my baby. Last year i noticed paint peeling off of the hood on the left side so i painted it but now the right side is peeling. i have no idea why this is happining. i also have a leak comming from the corners of the windows when it rains. im not sure what to replace, the weather stripping or the roof it self. any imput would be greatly apprectated. madmanmapper 05-02-2009, 04:20 AM Examine the rubber weatherstipping around your windows. As long as the top canvas has no holes in it, that's not a problem. Most likely your weatherstipping is damaged. However, your top could also be misaligned, leaving gaps where it should seal. As for the paint - in the 80s and 90s Chrysler used a new type of paint (and clearcoat) to make their cars especially shiny. Unfortunately both the clearcoat and some colors of the paint have a tendency to peel off after 10 years or so. The clearcoat on my hood and trunk is peeling off. However the cool thing is that the primer they used seems to be excellent. I have seen 90s Chryslers that almost all of the paint has peeled off of, but all of the primer remains, thus protecting your car from rust, even if it looks ugly. Anyway, the trouble spots seem to be the areas under the most sunlight and/or heat. Like my car, hood (engine heat) and trunk lid (flat surface has more sun exposure). The paint peeling is nothing a body shop can't fix. Just make sure you go to a body shop that will strip the old paint and do the job right. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
