dtc's wont clear could my pcm need a flash update?coogrr99 03-20-2009, 12:12 PM I repaired and replaced all possible things causing DTCs 0171,0174 would my pcm flash need to be updated so its not so sensative to lean conditions. all my problems started when i installed my intake 2 years ago.intake is now removed and returned to stock. beyondloadedSE 03-20-2009, 04:01 PM Like I suggested in my other post, if you want to clear the codes, you need to reset the PCM. Did you pull the PCM fuse or disconnect the battery? Even though your problems may be fixed, your light will still be on until the PCM is reset. BTW, what intake did you install? That could make a difference. Hopefully it wasn't a BOMZ intake off ebay. Here’s your engineering lesson for the day. The MAF is very important in fuel delivery and is ultimately what tells the PCM how much fuel needs to delivered to the engine. The MAF has a wire that heats up and as air passes over it, the wire cools. In simple terms, by knowing how much the wire cools, the PCM knows how much fuel to deliver. Laminar flow is very important for this to happen correctly. Most of these cheap aftermarket intakes use an undersized MAF adapter where the filter clamps onto. As a result, there is no longer a smooth transition to the MAF sensor and wrong readings will be taken. The MAF inlet should be the exact same size as the MAF adapter the filter clamps onto. Anytime there is a sudden expansion or contraction in pipes, ducts, or manifolds, fluid flow is slowed down. If you want hp gains, intake and exhaust air velocity is key. The faster you can get it in and out, the better. Anything like BOMZ or the like is complete garbage. Nuff said. coogrr99 03-20-2009, 05:15 PM I had a maf adapter and filter from autozone P.O.S ... i cleared the codes with my scan tool they stay clear for about 3-5min of idle and than come back on i never had these (171,174) codes before installing intake.sorry if im being a pain but i need an inspection bad!I also have a 1518(imrc) code but imrc still works my top-end is still strong. could 1518 and the other codes have any signifigance? beyondloadedSE 03-22-2009, 09:29 PM I had a maf adapter and filter from autozone P.O.S ... i cleared the codes with my scan tool they stay clear for about 3-5min of idle and than come back on i never had these (171,174) codes before installing intake.sorry if im being a pain but i need an inspection bad!I also have a 1518(imrc) code but imrc still works my top-end is still strong. could 1518 and the other codes have any signifigance? An IMRC CEL should not cause a lean code. If its sticking open, the air is still being metered by the MAF. Have all intake/PVC hoses been routed back where they should be? Has anything else been modified on the engine? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
