I have a 2002 Ford Ranger. While almost at a stop a shifted into neutral. When I went to shift back into first as I was lifting my foot from the clutch it felt like something was stopping the clutch from moving upwards, it did this for about 5 to 10 seconds. Then I lost all resistance in the clutch. I can shift into the diff. gears while the truck is turned off. Also, there is fluid leaking from the transmission. I just need to replace my clutch right? Or does it seem like something else may be wrong? The engine size is 4cyl 2.3l.

its probably a bad slave cylinder.

Where is the slave cylinder located?

The slave cylinder is probably on the inside of the manual transmission. at least is on my 1994 ranger. This means dropping the tranny to replace. I would have the rest looked at when you fix the slave cylinder.

It goes on the input shaft to the transmission and is a PAIN to bleed.

Okay, so! I was wondering if it mattered if I used a self adjusting clutch or just a non self adjusting clutch. The self adjusting clutch is OEM. The OEM one is $300 and the aftermarket non self adjusting one is only $200. Which is a fairly big price gap. I'd rather do the extra work and get the $200 one.
