Hi guys! My sporty smells gas.The classic leak at the return line/fuel regulator has been fixed and i have a new gas tank.I went through the recall for the fuel pump fittings.Everything is dry and still smells.Could it be the evap ? Is it at the back,on the underside between the bumper and the jack compartment ?

Are you sure it isn't residual?

....i have a new gas tank.I went through the recall for the fuel pump fittings.

..can you document that issue? What had you changed for free ? THis issue is highly debated in Canada as the "total recall" that was sent in the USA is generally not honored in Canada...they just pretend the canadian recall is to change the plastic fitting of the pump unit with a metal pipe

Hi RahX ! Yes i'm positive. Even after the wind dies down ,drying everything around, it still smells sometimes. It's like an aura or a spectre of gas around my truck. Anybody blindfolded could find his way back to this truck!

HI LMP ! I was never aware of the US recall. I wanted my KIA dealer to replace the pump and the tank as well 'cause it was rotten. The truck was protected against rust(perforation) for 3 years but it applied only to the skin. They ended up cutting off the 90 degree part of the 2 plastic fittings of the pump and screwed 2 brass fittings in instead, thus reducing the inside diameter of the line quite a bit. They finished this fine modification with a ton of epoxy spread over the rusted top of the pump. All of this for free!

There should be an access door under your passenger rear seat, pop it open and see if there is anything leaking in there.

All dry. I'm going to try to open the plastic cover, under the floor,to see if this would'nt be the evap. canister.

Hi guys, turned out the gas line was leaking.Had to remove the tank for access. What i saw there was pretty sad.Ihad to replace the pressure and the return gas lines plus the entire brake line!Dirt gathered between the frame and the tank, keeping the lines in contact with humidity year round.Wash it off from the rear right wheel opening.Thank you all for your help!

LMP,
I knew we had the same pair, just did'nt know what year they were.(i "met" you here on the sportage forum ,right? .) Speaking of wich, what year is your sporty? The gas lines are exactly the same but the tank is not the same.Same shape and all,but i have 2 vent valves, one on each side of the pump wich are connected togheter then going to the evap cannister.Mine is a 2001.Nice pictures!
