Ok here in The U.S. we have all types of names for street customs., like rat-rods for the 20s and 30s rides lowriders for a rides presentation an so on. Now I have finaly four images of these realy wild looking japanese rides and I want to build some for my self, but I don't know what there called them. So if any of you can tell me what's this Japanese style of customization called? Even if one of you knows the styles name and can only type it in japanese that's OK it will work for me. Like the word "Gaijin"
Oh I know all the types of cars they us, so that no biggy. just need a name.

Thanks if any one car help. Oh and for you guys that may just make up a name, I hope I can google it. This info will help me put a title over my build once I start.

Oh and one othere thing I wanted to ask. I hear this said a lot on the D1GP videos as a name or type of small cars that are some of the D1 cars, you know the AE86s' Ok I'm going to try and spell the word that the guy said on the DVD. Ha-chi-ro-koo I know this is not spelled right but this is what the guy in the DVD said: You see a lot of Ha-chi-ro-koos drifting this year. Can any one give me the right spelling. I have tryed to google it with no luck.

Well, Hatchiroku is はちろく. In English, it is 86, as in the Toyota AE86.

Thanks on the word "Hatchiroku" I was off by two letters the "T" and the "U". Once I went bask and looked over my Basic japanese words book I saw that I shoule have placed a "U" and not the "Oe's". Now that I have that name and when I build a AE86 Drift car I can use that word in the title to my project. That's one down and one more to go.

I just looked that word up and I was only off on one letter the "U" Hachiroku (AE86)

Well, technically speaking the 'T' is an English affectation, and doesn't really belong. In Katakana, it comes to ハチロク, which is probably more appropriate for the AE86. If you Google image search on ハチロク, you'll probably get plenty of pics of AE86s.

I'm still kind of working on basic Japanese myself.

I was there for a couple of years when I was young, and certainly want to go back sometime. It is fun to see someone else is working at Japanese also. :p

what's the difference between grand chan and bozoku? I recall you have posted something on this before. Is it to do with subject car?

Those are traditionally called 竹やり出っ歯 (Takeyari Deppa) where takeyari = bamboo spear and deppa = buckteeth. It's a sub category of 族車 (Zokusha, where zoku=family/faction, sha=car), the type of cars owned by 暴走族 (bosozoku = motorcycle / automobile gang). So, you can say zokusha for a broader meaning, or takeyari-deppa for more specific type ,like the ones in those photos.

Grachan is too nice of a word and inaccurate for this context, because it was a legitimate race category in the 70s and 80s, and the Grachan race cars are quite sophisticated at the time, while zokusha are cheaply-made and most-likely illegal.

A stereotypical takeyari deppa owner is a high school dropout, working at a nearby gas station or repair shop for a minimum wedge, but somehow finds a project car for dirt cheap through his bosozoku friends, and use the shop's resources to customize the car with wood, sheet metal (sometimes cardboard, too) and spray cans. :)

The style is outdated so is the word "takeyari-deppa." The word zokusha is still used even today. Both words sound quite derogatory, so when you talk to the zokusha owners, use "kasutamu ka-" instead.

Lownslow your build is awesome man! [tup] An your word's "Hirofkd" and the use of them and there meaning, helps out a lot thanks you guys. On the type of [Grachan short for Grand champion cars] I thought that the shape of the cars looked like American IMSA "silhouette" racing cars of the late 70's, early 80's.

Here's a good old link with some of those car's in it. An let me point out to you to scroll down to the 5th an 6th car,12th an 13th car shots, to see those realy low a wide tires stick out from the sides of the car. Now back in the days here that in the South US guys us to do that to there cars here. I remember seeing a '85 Celica Supras done that way here. Oh that name will that is what the car was call or named here in the US. I know it's realy just a Celica XX

"Yep"! the use of wood and a lot of bonding products. To some these types of cars up there the poor mans cool looking custom cars.

These images are for lownslow:

These car's are realy easy to build. I have some kits I'm going to try this style out on and here's my kit list. From Revell: Datsun 510,VW Golf II GTi,'81 Chey Citation. From AMT: '81 Datsun 280 ZX. Fujimi: Celica XX 2800GT,
This is just a list of what I have not to try this out on. I dont realy want to buy any kit's right now as I have to mini. I just need wheels and I have found a place that has some of those deep dish wheels I need.

If I misspelled any thing point it out as I'm at work right now and need to get back to work.

Hay guys I found two more I'm going to add to my build list. An Testors/Ital: '88 Isuzu Impulse, Tamiya: Toyota Celica 2000GTR, If I can start out good on these I may try to us this style on some S13s and some newer type cars., like the '98 Honda Civic or the old 300ZX. Oh how about a an '80's Mustang. Some of these ideas are just ideas and may not ever get built. But first I'm going to start on that old Testors/Ital: '88 Isuzu Impulse. Did you know that that kit has fujimi wheels in it. Any way wish me luck, once I start guys like Hirofkd, lownslow,MPWR,Tonioseven and even Emperor Hairy Monkey's help in the form of constructive criticism is realy help full from time to time.

If any one knows of the stock numbers of those wheel. Can you tell me the name and kit numbers of those wheels. That will help my search, now the flat plan dish wheels seen on the last photo of the JDM Celica with the star on the hood. Aoshima makes a wheel set just like those that I can get cheap, So that's one set down. I would realy like those of Tonioseven's rides, those wheels look grate!

I feel yah 360spider there a lot to take in all at once., but why always build the norm? Some times we all need to try something "Realy Different" How about doing a LOL (1980s IMSA Ferrari 308 GTB) version. I feel you would just love it if you would just try it. So what you think man? "360spider"

No worries, Alex is a builder I truly respect and I know he's funnin' with me. Secretly, he wants to build one! I'm taking pictures of the interior conversion I'm doing and I'll post them up eventually. I cannibalized the 1981.5 Datsun 280ZX Turbo interior to use it in the G-Nose. It's not 100% accurate but when have I ever cared about that?! :evillol::evillol::evillol:

white_R34

Yes yes when it comes to the interiors should I go for a half stock with roll bars of a full on race looking interior. Most of the "zokusha-cars" I have seen have both full stock with bars and with out. Now I have see some with a full on race interior. What do you all think?

tonioseven

I to want to have a full stock interior with roll bars and race styled seats. Oh an a not on calling the cars: "zokusha-cars" in my last post as I look a round the net, I see only one word use to describe these japanese Urban car culture or group's aka: "Gangs". As only bosozoku, so what every you call it I see there's a lot of love out there for these types of car styles. I've started on my Isuzu Impulse and I'll start a new thread soon on my work. "BUT"!!! I must build a car I have just see on this link. scroll down to see the mint colored Box shaped car with the BIG X shaped Exhaust pipes. I just have to build that thing. The fist car is just too much.
http://retroscenemag.com/default.aspx?tag=/bosozoku

On by the way I'm going to make my Exhaust pipe's shaped like a star.
I realy don't know if any of the shapes mean any thing out side japan.

I see in reading that this older version of the Original bosozoku style is still alive to day an some of the wild looking body kits we have seen on the older car has transcended into VIPstyling as the transition between what is modern VIPstyle taste during the mid to late 90's. During this time we saw insane widebodies, super streched tires, very aggressive aero parts, etc. The style is still around today. Here is an extreme VIPstyled Ride:
http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq184/abflug_r34/Car%20n%20Truck%20section/bosozoku%20cars/P90302211.jpg

An some of today japanese youth still lean back to the older bosozoku style seen here:
http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq184/abflug_r34/Car%20n%20Truck%20section/bosozoku%20cars/IMG_5080000911.jpg

http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq184/abflug_r34/Car%20n%20Truck%20section/bosozoku%20cars/DSC_01051.jpg

An this style is even in the UK seen here:
http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq184/abflug_r34/Car%20n%20Truck%20section/bosozoku%20cars/214151.jpg

Did any of you know that in japan some group was thinking of putting out a PS2 game on the bosozoku cars:
http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq184/abflug_r34/Car%20n%20Truck%20section/bosozoku%20cars/s_20u_031.gif

Now after seeing that the styles is still going on over there in Japan. An my idea of doing my more modern car in this "Crazy Bosozoku Style" was right on the money. So I'm going to keep looking to see if any groups or person's here in the US have built and yet.
Now if any of you know of some one that is will in to let you see there bosozoku post the images, photos, pix.

Oh I do see that on some of the older car's, they have a front mounted intercooler., but these don't pop up on all the car types.
http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq184/abflug_r34/Car%20n%20Truck%20section/bosozoku%20cars/KNS_14481.jpg

But the up turned pipes do. No for you guys that may want just a little Bosozoku Style on your real 1:1 ride you can get some pu turned exhaust to have a verey small part of the Bosozoku style right at your home. I my self will try a longer pipe if it's not Illegal here in Louisiana. I'll call up my towns DMV to see what they say about it. pssssssssss I know some one that works there. shhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell any one..................... LOL

I had to look at it for a moment to convince myself it was in fact a car, and that someone had not just 'Bosozuku-ed' their floor jack (http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/Borrowed/wacky_jack.htm)!

Hay 360 your not disrespecting any one man if that style is to over the top for you man I (feel yah)-I understand. MPWR in looking at that wild ride for some time and talking to friends that have a lot of the old toyota truck an the old B2000 Mazda trucks some of my friends tell me, look closer at the slant of the front wendsheld. It's not as low as it would be for a car but it's looks more like they the builders of this ride used a trucks cab. I looks like a custom stretched truck cab with a lot of made up box shaped part around a custom stretched toyota truck., but if infact this is a car and not a totle use of a trucks cab than they did one realy wild job. Still in looking over this one image this thing looks realy easy to do, along with all the othere "Bosozoku-ed" cars, vans, small trucks,Bikes.
An I to feel that this thing realy looks more like a Bosozoku-ed a floor jack.

I found some more kits I can build on. How about the Tamiya Toyota Carina ED Autopista. Theis one was deep in my japane's stash. I think I may have more up in the atic. Any way I'm going to try an keep to the true style of the bosozuku cars of japan.

Edit on my post of that front mounted intercooler. It's not a intercooler it's an oil cooler, sorry for my slip up on that guys.
The info from my DMV is the Bosozoku styled Exhaust pipes are not illegel if they don't block the tail lights. Those wild body modes are ok to a point. The thing that stood out the most is the over use of lights like that of the Dekotora (Insane big rigs).
http://www.flickr.com/photos/fjordaan/8916482

I also see that there are more variation on the Bosozoku style - Bosozoku (Which includes the tuning of motorcycles/vespas)
Yanky Hotoboto,Vanzoku Silhouette an Dekotora (Insane big rigs)
I have photos of some of these variation, so when I get my photo album up with all the cars ad trucks I'll come back and post the images that go with the right titles.
Oh an my Isuzu Piazza XE is off to a good start so soon I'll be starting my Bosozoku style Isuzu. I also see I have a Isuzu Gemini, so you all see I have a lot to work on.
Oh any one last thing I have some photos of the S13 Bosozoku.
