Where is the crank position sensor located on a 1999 ford zx2?

Probably somewhere around the crankshaft pulley. Just a guess.

On the passenger side of the engine, down low, on the crankshaft pulley, you should see large teeth, as if it were a gear. The crank position sensor is almost touching those, and located toward the back of the motor. Its nearly invisible on the 2nd generation Escorts, so is probably equally hard to see on the 3rd gen. Also hard to reach to get the connector off.
If you need to remove it, I would do it by working from below, maybe undoing the motor mount to let the engine down (use a jack with a block of wood twixt the pan and the jack) to get better access. I think its screws take a torx type of wrench, but I dont know the size. T30 or T40 maybe?

It is easiest to access by removing the front passenger wheel and the splash guard on that side. You will be able to reach right in with a small allen wrench and remove the screws.
