Egr valve?savannaz34 02-14-2009, 11:36 PM is there really anything to gain by removing the egr valve or the whole emissions system on a 3.4 dohc? ive read some posts on other sites about it letting the motor run cleaner, more power ect. also, what about removing the charcoal cannister system in the rear(for the fuel)is it even possible to run these motors without the emissions system(no i dont live in california) thanx manicmechanix 02-15-2009, 01:42 AM Of course you know it's illegal in all 50 states to unhook emissions control devices on any car operated on public roads right :evillol:? If you disabled the EGR, you'd probably mostly only get slightly more part throttle power. And that might be ify unless you run a slightly higher octane gas in case the EGR's combustion chamber cooling effect was allowing more timing advance. I don't doubt that it would slightly help your intake manifold run a little cleaner and cooler. The same thing with the EVAP, you might get some part throttle advantage but that is even more doubtful. jeffcoslacker 02-15-2009, 06:11 AM And that might be ify unless you run a slightly higher octane gas in case the EGR's combustion chamber cooling effect was allowing more timing advance. . Yeah without EGR, most stock feedback control engines will experience some abnormal combustion (spark knock) at mid to WOT, which the knock sensor hears and then the ECM retards the timing, which will actually cause a slight LOSS of power... manicmechanix 02-15-2009, 01:38 PM Yeah without EGR, most stock feedback control engines will experience some abnormal combustion (spark knock) at mid to WOT, which the knock sensor hears and then the ECM retards the timing, which will actually cause a slight LOSS of power... Yeah I agree, besides it's questionable how much EGR flow is used on a 4-valve motor. Pobably not as much as on a pushrod's combustion chamber. But at WOT the EGR is turned off anyway as far as I know, so it would have no real effect . I doubt the Evap/charcoal canister has any effect on part throttle and none at full throttle because then it's not operating. About the only real power robber on these modern engines is the Cat. It's robbing power in all throttle postions and moreso the more throttle you give it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
