Hi all,

I've got a 1991 Caprice Classic 5.0L with 108,000 miles on it. Within the past 2 weeks, there has been a pulsing squeak coming from somewhere under the hood. The noise has gotten progressively louder and more persistent. It is present any time the engine is running and becomes faster when the engine is revved. The nature of the squeak sounds like it's metal on metal. My first guess was a bad component along the accessory belt, but that turned out to be incorrect. After further inspection, it sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine block.

During the very limited driving I've done since the squeaking started, I've noticed that the engine seems to hesitate slightly when accelerating. I'm not sure if that's related, however.

Any guesses, folks?

remove the flywheel cover and inspect...could be a rock or something else came loose got in there...check flywheel bolts and starter hardware etc...
