1999 F-250 Super Duty diesel 7.3L 4x4 with 290,000 miles

Problem: I have little to no brake pedal in this vehical and a when applying the brakes or turning the steering there is a rather loud groan type of noise.

The rear calipers and brake pads were recently replaced to fix a leak in the right rear caliper. The leak was what I thought the problem was related to.

The brake lines were bled and I have brake pedal about 1 out of every 10 times I pushed the pedal. I noticed that the power steering pump has a leak and that the power steering pump and the hydraulic module in front of the master cylinder were connected by a hose. Since these are connected if I replace the power steering pump will it have any affect on the brake system?

I am used to working on vaccum assisted brake systems.

the SD diesel has a hydro boost it uses the power stearing pump for brakeboost sound like your powerstearing pump went bad

Thanks for the reply's. I also checked with a good friend of mine that works at a Ford dealership garage and the more I explained the issue the more positive he thought it was the master cylinder. So I replaced the master cylinder and the left front caliper, since I broke off the bleeder valve. After bleeding the brakes I had more pedal than before and the groaning noise from before had vanished.

I have a 2001 f-250 with a 7.3 diesel. I just bought the truck. When I got it the rear brakes were shot, the left rear pad had fallen off and the rotor and caliper destroyed eachother. I replaced the calipers and rotors and oviously pads too. My brakes pump up decently with the enging off, When I start it up the brakes go an inch from the floor. I have replaced the mastercylinder and the hydro booster. The brakes work, but are NOT great. The petal just isnt solid like it should be. I have bled the lines about 10 times now, hoping to get a better petal. Still no good. Anyone haved any suggestions???

If you have anti lock sometimes you need a scanner to pulse the pistons to get all the air out.
If you have rear drum brakes adjust the rear shoes until they barely touch when turning by hand.
