Bad Motor Mounts? 93 3.1L Corsica

Hi all,

Our corsica has been making a pretty bad banging sound when driving around and hitting bumps etc. It looks like the engine mounts on the car are shot after putting it in park and putting it through the gears. Whenever the car leans right and shifts it weight on the highway 45-50 the whole car shakes pretty awful.

I was wondering how complicated it was to change the engine mounts on this car? There 2 mounts on the passenger side, one on the top and one on the bottom. I have never changed a mount but my friend says that it can be down with a jack. I thought an engine hoist was the only way to do it.

I have never seen one with bad mounts myself....I wonder if maybe you have either strut and/or cv joint issues maybe. When struts are bad they can make a racket when you hit a bump and the cv axles really show up when you turn right of left...you might me right with the engine mounts but I have driven cars with one mount broken and they only made any kind of noise on take off. I could not imagine both mounts are out. Maybe others will disagree. Just my thoughts.

Hi jsgold, thanks for replying! :)

Wow very interesting. We actually just replaced the struts on the car a few months ago so that is probably not it. The CV joint haven't thought of that.

I have a 1999 Malibu with 3.1L inspect the mounts with a flashlight. With the vehicle on 4 jack stands watch as somebody else puts it in gear both forward and reverse. Rev it up somewhat with the left foot on the brake. Watch as the engine will want to roll. You can observe excessive roll on the Malibu it was the front transmission mount. The rear on the Malibu is very hard to change.
I would also look at the struts also and front springs.
