'82 Caprice Classic and Impala Brochurebhw33191 02-02-2009, 06:39 PM LOTS of pics. Picked this up at some car show. http://i42.tinypic.com/2rqk96e.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2d6v2iq.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/4vpnic.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/m954dl.jpg If you look close you can see what looks like a toggle switch for the Rearview mirror? What does this do? http://i43.tinypic.com/2d6v2iq.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/egra07.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/idvw2x.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/25jbhpz.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/714odf.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/142byaa.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/5p3cxz.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/26031bs.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/fy0jyr.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/14t9g0p.jpg mike561 02-02-2009, 07:05 PM The '82 brochure is way more detailed than the '83 brochure i have. Those two switches you see, one is to move the pass side rear view mirror (mine has this) and that other switch is for the rear window defogger (mine doesnt have that) both were optional i belive. bhw33191 02-02-2009, 07:14 PM The '82 brochure is way more detailed than the '83 brochure i have. that switch you see is for a rear window defogger, that was an option at the time, my car doesnt have one. No i was talking about the one to the left of the defogger switch that says "R.Mirror". I have the defogger switch on mine but i can't figure out what the R.Mirror one could be for. Update: I think i know what it is. Its for the electric sideview mirrors. I didn't think they offered those but i guess they did. mike561 02-02-2009, 07:17 PM ah ok, yeah its to move around the right mirror, theres a few cables that run from that toggle switch to the mirror bhw33191 02-02-2009, 07:19 PM ah ok, yeah its to move around the right mirror, theres a few cables that run from that toggle switch to the mirror, its entirely mechanical, no electronics in it. Jeez all mechanical?? Thats crazy '97ventureowner 02-02-2009, 09:36 PM Jeez all mechanical?? Thats crazy Not really. I'd rather have mechanical windows and locks on my vehicles. less issues to deal with when they break in the future. The '90 LeSabre I got new was one of the few sold in my area that no power windows or locks, and my '94 C1500(also purchased new,) didn't have any either. Now unpowered windows door locks and mirrors are a rarity, and are part of "packages" rather than single options like in the past. Back then the rear defogger was more of an option, but in the past decade, many states adopted laws which required them to be on new cars sold in their state, (mainly those in the colder regions, and as a safety feature.) So it's easier for manufacturers to just include them as standard equipment. bhw33191 02-02-2009, 09:47 PM Not really. I'd rather have mechanical windows and locks on my vehicles. less issues to deal with when they break in the future. My parents recently bought a dodge durango. Few weeks later there were big problems. WHILE YOU WERE DRIVING the seat would move forward and back all by itself, dash was lit up like a christmas tree, and the seat belt dinger was going off nonstop (REALLY REALLY ANNOYING). Brought it to the dealer and spent a good amount of money on replacing sensors. Come to find out, a ground wire under the drivers seat that goes to the chasis got detached (most likely by someone in the back shoving their foot under it). So there ya go lol. '97ventureowner 02-02-2009, 10:06 PM The reliability among many power options have improved over the years, and I'm rather comfortable with the ones in my '06 Uplander. Parts and prices have remained steady for repairs too. Back then I was known for not recommending power options on some vehicles but rather, today it's not much of an issue. i do have to be careful, especially this winter in the mornings before the vehicle has sufficiently warmed up to not use the power option on the windows as they have been frozen many times,(it's been a rough winter here so far.) I can just imagine trying to lower the window while it's frozen and breaking a part or ripping out one of the sliders in the track which can be a common issue. That's how a lotof problems begin, in the winter with frozen windows. I wanted to edit my last post , but it wouldn't let me. I wanted to add that a few years back, before I became computer literate, I got rid of literally hundreds of car brochures like was spotlighted in the first post. I sort of had a hobby of visiting the annual car show in my city which was rather big. I used to collect catalogs from all the manufacturers. After awhile they took up a lot of space and I no longer needed them. I couldn't find any one who wanted them so I recycled them. I could imagine how much I could fetch on eBay for some of them. bhw33191 02-02-2009, 10:11 PM The reliability among many power options have improved over the years, and I'm rather comfortable with the ones in my '06 Uplander. Yeah thats too bad about those brochures. Call me a pack rat but i keep anything and everything. I can't help but run the idea through my mind, "maybe this could be of value some day."...but if you don't watch yourself you'll find your living room sky high with garbage  '97ventureowner 02-02-2009, 10:31 PM Call me a pack rat but i keep anything and everything. I have those same thoughts and am finally realizing that, that is not a healthy way doing things. My parents were pack rats and lived in a big house. You can imagine the mess I have to go through (over 35 years worth!) to clean it up. If you don't watch out it can overtake you. I have read a number of books on the subject and have modified the ways I handle things and keep organized, and I still have a long way to go. mike561 02-02-2009, 11:42 PM random but anyone know what ever happened to Pete??? he's m.i.a. '97ventureowner 02-03-2009, 01:16 AM random but anyone know what ever happened to Pete??? he's m.i.a. Hmm, now that you mention it, I notice that too. I checked his activity and he was last on the site 1/11/09. bhw33191 02-03-2009, 07:50 AM random but anyone know what ever happened to Pete??? he's m.i.a. i was wondering the same. rhandwor 02-03-2009, 09:11 AM I think if Chevy manufactured a small rear wheel drive car at a decent price many people would still buy them. Basically your are forced to buy cars you don't want. I had a 1979 Impala and my wife said it was to big to drive in Atlanta traffic but liked it when I lived in Ohio. mike561 02-03-2009, 12:05 PM Those new chevy aveos are so ugly, thats probably why gm is having finacial problems. ugly, unreliable cars that get major problems right after the warranty is up. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
