what's up? i have a 91 s-10 4wd w/ 4.3 v-6 T.B.I.
i am second owner my mother bought the truck in 95. only upgrades have been a K-N filter, tb spacer, hypertech chip, no cat w/ flowmaster muffler, and converted to electric fans. my mother drove it like this for years w/ no problems. it finally quit firing one day come to find out, after a long road, the pickup coil burned up. replaced it. fine for one year then it started acting up again. it acts like the timing retards way back and then stops firing all together. let it set for awhile and it starts and runs for awhile. almost like an ignition module. i've replaced every ignition componet on the truck. pickup coil, ign. coil, module, esc module, ignition switch, neutral safety switch, and ecm. i'm still using the hypertech prom. could this be my problem? it would also smoke the ignition coil if the key was left on. i'm pretty good w/ cars and fuel injection but this has me stumped.

ANY HELP FELLAS?

it did this before and quit working all together untill i changed neutral safety switch and fuel pump. i did both at same time. it fired up ran fine for a month. it had one glitch, came back on, then was fine for another month or so. i drive back and forth from oklahoma to Kansas City alot. never gave me a problem on long trips. so i don't think anything is getting hot and shutting down.

Have you checked the distributor itself for wear and tear ?
