My 91 Lebaron V6 4 door, with 24500 miles (original) on it sounds like it wont shift gears. it all started this saturday Jan. 10 2009. all of a sudden. when you press the gas the rpms sound REALLY high and it has trouble going 40, which makes then engine sound like its gonna go through the hood. I dont have 3-5 grand for a new tranny, so im hoping its a vacum hose or something.

Not likely. Sadly you have the A-604 which is not known for being a reliable transmission.

3-5 grand?! Where I work (transmission shop) A-604s go for $800-$1000. If you have the tools, time, and place to fix your own car, you might even be able to do the trans job yourself, or at least remove and replace the trans yourself. Look around you for a mom-n-pop kind of trans shop, you should be able to get price like we charge. And like I was saying, if you can get the trans in and out by yourself you should be able to have a trans shop rebuild it for $500.

Come to think of it, your car might just be stuck in limp mode... but that still usually means you need a rebuild.

And I certainly hope you stopped driving it. Because if you need to rev the engine that much to move it wouldn't be long before you blow your engine. BTW A-604s don't have vacuum lines, they're electronic. And alas, they do wear out faster than some transmissions. But according to my dad, they should last 80K miles between rebuilds which is really not that bad.
