Does anyone here know if a dash wiring harness from a 96 S-10 will fit a 94 model S-10. Truck needing new harness is a 94 S-10 with 147,000 miles and the "Z" engine code. TBI motor. I am guessing if the replacemnet harness is from a model with more options then I could just not use the extra connections. This is the harness under the dashboard only, not the engine harness.

Salvage yard interchange or a GM parts book should help.

What is the problem with the old harness?
Sometimes they can be repaired.

The existing harness has been repaired in several places, meaning it has wires that were melted and replaced with new sections. I am having the common no.4 guage fuse blowing problem. I have determined that the short to ground is in a huge pink wire that is one of the two wires going to the no.4 fuse on the terminal. That wire has been spliced just as it comes out of the firewall connector junction. If I can just replace this harness with another one I will. The local dealer said that the harness has been discontinued.

I did not have my VIN with me when I called him so he couldn't tell me if the same harness would fit both years. The salvage yard route is next on the agenda.

I went to a local junkyard to pull a 95 model wiring harness and the harness wasn't the same. It appears that 95 was the first year for the airbag steering wheel so the harness is different than mine. I will just keep searching for the short to ground I have and hope I can pin it down.

With a little time and work most wiring harness can be repaired.
Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck

my son has the same vehicle 5sp manual 4.3L 4X4 1994 s10...the wire you mention should be replaced..the harness when doing this should be inspected and checked for chafffing...this will require you to open the dash for this...you must use heat shrink and wire connectors that are of high quality....not the plastic locking fasteners that fail ...

If this where outside the vehicle I recommend soldering any wire splicing...then cover with the heat shrink...

radio shack or an electrical supply centre should have all this for repair...

a wire harness if it was available would cost a lot of money to complete if available, this vehicle is worth less than the cost if you replace the Whole harness.

Well I finally found my short to ground on the #4 guage circuit. The wires coming down the backside of the engine going to the O2 sensor were laying against the exhaust downpipe and one had the coating melted, exposing the strands. This cured my charging problem also. It's getiing 14.1 volts at the battery when idling now.
I also found a large red or pink wire coming out the engine harness behind the AC compressor and running down by the harmonic balancer going to the starter solonoid, I think, that has a 1/2 wide chunk of coating missing and strands sticking out. It eventually changes to a twisted dual black wire with heat sink in it. It wasn't touching any metal but will repair that wire also.
Now I just have to retape the dashboard harness and put the dash back in.
Thanks everyone for the help. Hopes these repairs work!!

the loom shielding on these wires fails after 10years...you should replace this on any wires where its failing...tape as a repair on the exterior usually don't work well in heat areas....

also this is excellent to use on the plug wires....
