2002 Silverado 4x4 balljoints 1500 seriesTPyles 01-10-2009, 06:27 PM The tires are scalped on the inboard and my wife took it for an alignment today and they told her the ball joints are bad and they cant give it an alignment. Could anyone ballpark the book rate for labor on these, as well as a ball park on the parts. Its a 2002 x-cab 1/2 ton 1500 automatic with about 120,000 on a 5.3 V8. Thanks for your time guys. j cAT 01-11-2009, 12:19 PM The tires are scalped on the inboard and my wife took it for an alignment today and they told her the ball joints are bad and they cant give it an alignment. Thanks for your time guys. have another shop or your self check the ball joints... do you ever grease the front end ? the tie rods are weak on these trucks... ukrkoz 01-13-2009, 10:14 PM ball joints are pressed in, unfortunately. you will be better off pulling control arms out and bringing them to any reasonable shop to have them pressed out and new ones pressed in. unless you real good with large socket and sledge hammer, yes, indeed. call around and find best price for the job. should take them minutes to do each. good tire shops will do this. also, to avoid unnecessary repairs, raise wheel up and shake it vigorously vertically. if it moves back and for, hub bearing is bad, and that'll give all kinds of worn out tires. $170 and about 20 min DIY replacement. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
