I'm a junior in high school, and for my project car its my 96 firebird.

Engine size: V6 3.8L (3800 series 2) Transmission: Manual 5 speed.

I'll be removing the engine due to valve cover and oil pan gasket leaks.
I find this a prime time to add a larger camshaft to give it move of that V8 feel/sound.

What will be the processors in remove the cam and installing a larger one?
Also any ideas for a Specific Cam?
What would this cost? (around about)

Thanks in advanced! :)

If you are going to be removing i would get buy a v8, and buy like the wire harness and everything with it and that way you dont just get the v8 sound, you get the v8 feel. And also i wouldnt recommend pulling the entire engine just to do a gasket job on just the valve covers, and the oil pan.

The valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets AND cam swap can all be done WITHOUT removing the engine.
But, if you do decide to remove the engine, forget about trying to put a V8 in it, the cost and amount of work won't be worth it.
For a swap you'd need:
Wiring harness
PCM
engine mounts
transmission
driveshaft
differential
radiator
front springs (heavier engine)
exhaust system
transmission cross member
transmission mount
shifter
throttle cable
ALL of the sensors for the engine
plumbing
starter
and a million other little things. This is NOT a cheap or easy project to undertake.

For a cam swap you'd need
Cam
intake gaskets
timing cover gasket
RTV
Coolant
A free weekend
AND since you are planning on doing the oil pan gasket too the cam swap will be much easier.
Get someone that has done a cam install before to help you, especially when it comes time to re-lash the rockers. This process, if done incorrectly could ruin the engine at worse, or just make it un-driveable.

you can do al lthat with the motor in the car

for a nice cam check out abbott racing heads NA cam its very nice and runs great times with the right setup :grinyes:

since your doing the work your self

cam about $300
lifters $150
gasket set ~50-80 (for cam you need upper/lower valve cover front cover sets)
push rods $100
springs $130
retainers $100

are you sure its the oil pan gasket and not hte rear main seal leaking? where is it leaking from?

the rear main seal on these motors was defective from the factory and they leak lol
