2000 regular cab 1500 series Silvy. Does anyone know who many litres of fluid the rear end holds? Had the truck in for Service today as it is ccccoldd outside and change oil light has been coming on ,so today was the day. I had them check the fluid level in the rear end and if it WAS required to put synthetic in it like the tag says. Unfortunately I had to leave the truck. When I got back junior tells me ya the rear end was down. I asked what he put in and was told 80/90. about 300 ml ( sorry for no conversion to imperial amounts) JFL ! so I went to see the shop manager and he says ah it`ll be ok , my response was not in my truck it won`t ,we`re not making milkshakes here. Anyway they drain the rear end ,but junior is unsure how much it holds, parts manager says just under 3 litres and so junior puts in 2 and proudly announces good to go. he says level is in range. whatever ! oh and bye the way sir I noticed that the fittings on the fuel filter were damp. ok , did you try to tighten filter ........uh no . I guess I`ll have to try slide under the ole girl but if someone knows the amount it would be appreciated.

if you are referring to the rear diff, you can fill it only yey high, or it'll overflow. I am not remembering how much I put into mine - we have same year - but 3 LITRES sound awfully lot for rear diff.

But I changed it to avoid any confusion for some people. yey high being to the bottom of the fill hole till it spills out I know . However for some strange reason it says on the tag to only fill it to a certain level . Thank you for your input tho.

i just checked Chilton. does not say either. says "fill till it overflows"
scientifically speaking, should be no lower than 3/8 of an inch below the filler hole bottom edge. like i have scope on my index finger tip.
80w90 gear lube. i use amsoil, none better.:nono: :nono:

the capacity for any device is only for a ruff idea as to how much is needed....

your must fill the rear diff if the eaton locker type with synthetic 75-90wt.
the level will vary if very cold it may drop, ,so I always check after using the vehicle like during the oil change...this is then set to 5/8-1 inch below the fill hole on level ground...also using the drain hole as a way to replace fluid. I don't recommend as the rear cover must be removed to clean out the box/magnet..

with the proper clean fluid the rear diff should lock quickly when the one wheel starts to slip...if the diff locks too late then it will slam in,,not good....

my 2000 sil 4x4 since 2000 has over 100,000 mi...and with the weather I have to deal with this has worked very good for me..
