One day, I pulled the door handle to get out of my truck, and it broke!!!

I opened the whole panel to see if it's an easy replace, and I found out that the housing that the handle is in is riveted to the door itself!

I can't figure any other way to get the housing off to replace the handle, other than to drill out the rivets, but then I'd have to rivet the housing back in?!

HELP!!!

lmctruck.com sells the handle and probably has the directions to replace it. Might want to give them a call.

I believe those are pop rivets...drilling them out should be easy. You can probably just find & use some short bolts (domed/slotted) and nuts to reassemble it with.

I did I just drilled out the pop rivets and then put the handle in. The rivets arent really necessary it sits in there pretty good just by itself. The bigger pain is taking the cover to the door off.

I agree that getting the door panel off can be one of the most difficult parts on this job but wanted to point out that you should replace the rivets w/new ones or a short nut and bolt.

The handle fits into a slot that slides forward to lock it into place, the rivet prevents it from sliding back and coming loose.

You will probably never have this happen but it is cheap insurance
