1/24 BMW E36 M3 Coupeendac 01-06-2009, 03:23 PM Hey guys, well before Christmas I was browsing ebay looking for nothing in particular. I had been keeping my eye out for an E36 BMW for a few years and I came across a 1/24 Revell BMW M3 which was partially started. I added it to my watching items and didn’t think much more about it. Then a few days later I noticed it was still for sale and the price wasn’t a lot so I put on a bit and won. Now I probably should have stopped there but I happened across an original Dragon 1/24 BMW M3 Lightweight and after a slight hesitation I hit buy it now and went on to buy a third kit which will be in another thread. Well the postman arrived today with two parcels, one from America and one from England. I was amazed to find the Dragon kit was still in its original plastic wrapping and it was almost a shame to open it. So now I have two E36 M3’s waiting to be built. Well I’m slightly undecided about the one that’s already been started as to weather I should just finish it or disassemble it and start from scratch as I’m not entirely happy with the colour of the interior. The Dragon kit which came from the factory painted dark blue I have planned to repaint in Boston Green metallic with a turquoise interior. This you might think an unusual choice but if you look to the last picture you’ll see my inspiration. As for the second kit I was thinking Hellrot red. Now I hope I haven’t bored you too much with that and I shall keep this updated as I progress. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1651.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1655.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1659.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1661.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1674.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1666.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1672.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1669.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1663.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1664.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1665.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3/DSCF1657.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3/DSCF1683.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3/DSCF1685.jpg And my inspiration http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/DSCF1563.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/7.jpg Interior http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/9.jpg BVC500 01-07-2009, 12:14 AM I like that color combo. I've seen a Ferrari 250 GT SWB in a very similar color combo. I used to have one of these kits, and sort of wish I kept it, but thought I'd never build it, so I sold it. I recently acquired a Hasegawa BMW 320i sedan, which I think produced in collaboration with Dragon. endac 01-07-2009, 07:42 AM I like that color combo. Thats one of the reasons i really like the car is the fact its slightly different. Hope to start building soon. Hope to start building soon. As a matter of fact, the Ferrari 250 GT SWB is a british car (spent some time in Australia too). So maybe that color combo is well-liked in England and Ireland. I'll have to dig up and post of photo of it. NissanSkylineGTR98 01-07-2009, 09:52 AM Love the M3s you've got, makes me want to get a couple! Looking forward to seeing how you do with these :D endac 01-07-2009, 01:51 PM As a matter of fact, the Ferrari 250 GT SWB is a british car (spent some time in Australia too). Although the rare E36 M3 GTs were finished in British racing green with a mexico green interior. BVC500 01-07-2009, 03:00 PM Gotcha. Was this color combo offered in the standard palette, or was special order, or offered through BMW Individual? drunken monkey 01-07-2009, 03:15 PM not really relevent but is that real M3? Steering wheel, alloys and side skirts don't look like it. endac 01-07-2009, 03:58 PM not really relevent but is that real M3? Steering wheel, alloys and side skirts don't look like it. No, my own car is a 318is, it just came from the factory with M-Technic parts such as the front and rear bumpers, spoiler, clear front and rear indicators and the strips on the sides. endac 01-07-2009, 04:09 PM Gotcha. Was this color combo offered in the standard palette, or was special order, or offered through BMW Individual? Well the colour was offered in the brochure for the E36 coupes. Sorry for the quality of the images, my scanner isn't great. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/002.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/001.jpg mmagda 01-07-2009, 05:52 PM DUde you 1:1 :p is pretty! BVC500 01-08-2009, 09:35 AM Wow those colours do look really similar, thats a beautiful looking car. It's actually an Irish car now. A Ferrari collector living in Dublin owns it. I'm planning on building the Italeri version in this color combo. Let me know what paints you use to mix your interior color when you get to that stage. endac 01-13-2009, 11:47 AM Small update, been doing a lot of priming and some experimentation with the interior colour. I found one in the local hobby shop that seemed pretty close but now its on the plastic its a bit light. It still needs a good few coats so hopefully it'll darken up a bit. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1734.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1735.jpg endac 01-15-2009, 05:49 PM Bit more progress on the shells, started with the boston green one but ran out of paint so have to get some more tomorrow. Got two coats given to the hellrot red one and its starting to turn out pretty good, still needs a few more coats as the colour seems a bit light. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3%20Lightweight/DSCF1755.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/endacurran/BMW%20M3/DSCF1754.jpg -Gert- 01-16-2009, 03:32 PM Awsome!
