How long do you typically let a resin body soak in say Westley's or oven cleaner etc to rid of the release agents? Thanks

Three hours to overnight are the numbers i see often.
I don't think i'd use oven cleaner though.
I wonder if CSC would work?

A two-three minute solid scrubbing with a toothbrush and bleach/detergent followed by a good rinse off works just fine IMHO. The release agent is only on the surface of the resin.

I use a cheapo electric toothbrush (it was a gift that came with some other item) for my scrubbing....

Thanks everyone. The body and transkit is the Historic Racing Minatures 60 Corvette Cunningham kit as raced at Lemans. I just started last night and will post pictures as I start getting deeper into the building process. I am using the Pro Modeller 58 Corvette kit as a base. The transkit looks beautiful with very little flash and mold clean up.

Few minutes with good scrub, like Steve mentioned is more than enough.

Yep. We have a product called "Soft Scrub with Bleach" that works great on both resin and styrene plastic. We get it at the supermkt.

But be careful if you're wearing clothes, especially clothes that you plan to wear again. It's powerful stuff. I scrubbed a car while wearing an old black t-shirt, and the Soft Scrub bleached permanent white dribbles down the front. Now I can't wear that shirt around the house without getting a lot of razz about drooling, my eating habits, etc.

I wouldn't soak a resin body in anything stronger than a mild soapy solution, when ever I buy any resin parts they be for cars or trucks I always give 'em a good wash in a warm soapy wash then rinde them off and let then air dry overnight once this is done I then hit 'em with auto primer either grey or white depending on what colour the first is gping to be. But as I always tell my wife when ever she ask me anything what does my comments count for basicly nothing, ah not really if you do what I do you should 'ave a good finish in the end.

When I built 1:43 resin kits from like Starter etc I never did anything but maybe wash them. I then read in a paper from Modelhaus that Don was recommending like Westley's bleach white etc to remove any mold release agents. Though I never have had a problem with primer or paint lifting. I soaked this body (HRM) for two hours in the Westley's and it appears fine. Thanks again.

drodg, I've never heard of this Westley's bleach but then again a lot of stuff you have in the U.S. & Europe so I guess if you've had no problems go ahead.

Does anyone know if there is a UK/European version of Westleys ? At the moment, I'm using washing up liquid which is only marginally successful.

A cleanser with bleach works just fine to prep the resin. Here we have Soft Scrub w/ bleach - which I use - and there's Comet, Ajax and others. Mix it with some water and scrub vigorously with a toothbrush. Rinse well.

Don't over complicate things for yourself. There's no need to go looking for specialist products.
