intake question

I have a question about sb intakes. Why is it that on some intakes the rear water jacket holes are blocked off? Would it not be better if they were open? I was concerned about the back cylinders. I have a 289 stock intake where the back holes dont cross over and a aftermarket name brand intake for 289/302 that the back holes do cross over. I have thought of drilling and tapping the blocked off holes and run a crossover tube. One othe intake i have that is closed off is an intake for a weiand blower and i have water flow problems with it.

THANK YOU

Theoretically, allowing the water to cross "over" between the heads will equalize the temperature in both banks. Whether or not this helps anything is up for debate. Ford didn't think so, or they would have added the provision. Same is true among the Bowtie crowd...

I'm not sure I understand how you could have water flow issues with an intake, unless it doesn't exactly "fit". Please elaborate.
