The best tool I have used to estimate value is the Old Cars Price Guide. With respect to the car in question with a 426 hemi-head engine, the value, according to OCPG is "unestimable". These cars were so extremely rare, that a documented example of what you described is pretty much worth whatever someone will pay for it.
Now, the car you describe does sound familiar to me. If the car you describe is original red with black stripe, black interior, power windows, factory AM/FM, steel wheels with 15-inch factory wheel covers and was sold new in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I can help verify the history. If I have "missed the mark" on this, please let me know.
On a side note, a truly "numbers matching" car of this vintage would have the last seven figures of the VIN stamped on both the engine block and the transmission case. If the car in question is the one I think it is, the engine will be numbers matching, but the transmission will not, since the original owner had a rebuilt exchange transmission installed by the dealer during the three years and 36,000 miles he drove the car.
