Blue Bowtie 01-01-2009, 09:30 PM If the throttle plates are properly aligned and closing all the way, you need to look for external vacuum leaks. The only way to verify whether the throttle plats are fully closed is to remove the carb and inspect the plates in their bores. That disconnected EGR valve is highly suspect, as well as any PCV valves, and any power brake vacuum boosters. If the EGR is removed and blanked off, and the external vacuum lines are disconnected and capped, that should eliminate most of the usual suspects for vacuum leaks. whatever you do, resist the urge to install an Holley carb unless it is a 1685 (the last good Holley made). Instead, you'd be ahead of the game to fit up a 4MV Rochester, or just bite the bullet and install a TPI system (ideal for a Jeep). j cAT 01-02-2009, 10:24 AM I have an '80 Jeep CJ5 with a '76 GM 5.7L 350 V8.
