99 2500 front drive shaft HELP3mikeman 12-27-2008, 04:29 PM I'm trying to replace the u-joints in the front shaft had to heat them up to remove them. Now i noticed the slip yoke when putting the new u-joint in that it seem both sides where the u-joint caps go are bent in a little bit and i can't believe i did it with a little heat but now i can't get the clips in to hold the u-joint in. Is this correct or is it bent. I didn't pay any attention before taking it apart. Any help would be great. j cAT 12-27-2008, 08:57 PM I'm trying to replace the u-joints in the front shaft had to heat them up to remove them. Any help would be great. if the yoke is bent this is the problem, clips won't go in....what you can do is use a bolt and with a nut/washer place between the yokes and use the bolt to bend the yokes back.use some heat to assist... when the U joint is removed you need to properly support the yoke so that when hitting the U joint out you do not bend the yoke... this is a common fix...if you use care you will not get a vibration... 3mikeman 12-28-2008, 09:08 AM I was able to heat up the ears and bend them back to put the u-joint in. Thanks j cAT 12-28-2008, 10:07 AM I was able to heat up the ears and bend them back to put the u-joint in. Thanks I use a small propane torch then support the ear securely then drive out the U joint so it will not bend ,,but like yours it does happen sometimes.. good luck. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
