Anyone have any ideas on how to get an economical fix for this? The exhaust manifold contains the front cat, the flex pipe is separate. Some cars the flex pipe contains the 2nd cat, and on some the 2nd cat is separate. If you can get me your VIN, I can see what I can do on price. 82Stang 12-27-2008, 11:40 PM The exhaust manifold contains the front cat, the flex pipe is separate. I got the car the other night. Put the front up by jack and started it. Once I got under, it was clear the flex pipe was leaking. The quote my relatives got was by far wrong. Just another example of seeing people who have no idea about this stuff and shops/muffler/dealer equating that to dollar signs. Which is why they brought it to me. I got the flex pipe fixed, engine code gone and the vehicle inspected. Now all is well for under $200. They are happy, I am pleased and it all worked out well. Which is why I began mechanics many many years ago. There are simple fixes that only people in the field no about. Any other civilian is in the dark. But like PT Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute. Appreciate the input. MJ vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
