Anyone had to change one of these? I was just parked and when it was time to back up, no power steering, fluid was leaking.

DO you want to change the steering rack itself or the pump? WHere in the circuit did the leak occur? It is frequent that the steel hoses that go to and form the "radiator" on front cross frame rust away...

Put it on jack stands use a flashlight and start from the thread fitting at the pump and follow it to where it has a thread fitting at the rack. Do the same thing to the return line. Usually has a hose clamp trace it to a thread fitting on the rack. Look at the rack if leaking its usually on the seals on the end by the inner tie rods. Then watch the pump they either leak at the front seal or
around the plastic. I put a rebuilt pump on my 1999 Malibu and the front seal was bad it poured out. I had to do another rebuilt I wasn't pleased.
Hoses are available from a parts store. Rebuilt pumps also.

I had the rack develop a leak on my 95 Transport during really cold weather this past winter. Popped the seal on the stearing shaft. Hope you don't have to change out the rack as I did. It's a nasty job. You have to remove the rear bolts on the sub frame and drop the engine and transmission slightly. The hardest part of the whole job is dealing with the boot and knuckle joint on the stearing shaft. What I finally came up with for the boot is a wire fashioned to hook the top and pull it down and out of the way. If I had to do it again I would make something to compress the boot while it was out of the vehicle. Welding rods or something similar which you could cut away after fastening the U joint.
