Hey, I just went to the Toronto Motorcycle Show (http://www.sportshows.ca/tms/index.html)
There were a couple of displays for some pretty impressive machinery that I have not come across.
One was Hyosung.......... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyosung_Motors_%26_Machinery_Inc.)impressive quality, apperance and design, even if their model range is pretty limited. Does anyone have any experience or insight with their bikes?

Another was these guys..........Chironex Motorsports........ (http://www.chironexinc.com/)
I was expecting some kind of horrendous Chinese wonder but it turns out their stuff looks pretty good, competitve designs, well finished with good components. They even had a very nice little sandrail powered by a 1.8 liter VW inline 4.
Anyways, it turns out they are Canadian, with alleged Canadian designs (even though I suspect they source components from all over, including China.)

So anyone have any insight into these guys? If I could work out how to strap a dead moose to the sandrail, I could justify getting one.......

my friend rides a hyosung GT250R and she hates it. quality wise it's actually kind of a piece of shit and it's absolutely gutless power wise all around, it is only a 250 though. i'd recommend it to learn on for a season and then get rid of. on the up side, it does have an actual fuel gauge and 4 way hazards, which my bike doesn't have. I've never heard of Chironex.

I have seen a few Hyosung 650 cruisers around town but haven't ridden one yet...but if the specs are true, it should be a blast to ride...makes more hp than a 1200 Sporty...

There was a shop near where I used to live in PA that carried Hyosung - from what I could pick up they were basically cheaply made "econobox" bikes. I never saw one up close, but they didn't really seem my cup of tea based on what I could see from the road. I suppose if I was desperate to get started on 2 wheels it might be worth it from that spectrum.

Never heard of the other one, though.

down here we, unfortunately, have the Hyosungs.

They are pretty much all learner legals so that should tell you how good they go. A 250 ninja would beat any of them.

I knew a guy through my dad who bought one to learn on. Paid $8000.00AUS for a Gt650r, and it was like it was built on a friday arvo before a long weekend.

It was recalled with a brake problem. problem was they wouldn't work some times. and a fuel line fault too.

he got bugger all for it when he sold it.

Thank you for the Hyosung input, though. I'm pretty sure these things will have to sell at a deep discount here (Canada) compared with other brands.

Frankly, though the riding season is a little short and most riders do not accumulate much mileage. There are lots of better used bikes available in the Hyosung price range.

That makes sense to me but it is surprising how many people prefer an inferior product because it is 'new' and cheap but would not consider 'used' due to uncertainty of the condition or pride..........

This kind of attitude is what allowed Yugo to sell so many crappy cars 20 years ago.

Canada has long been a 'test market' for foreign companies looking to move into the US in a big way. They sell products here first to see if they will fly. We got Hyundai (and their dreadful Pony) 5 years before the US did.
We also got a bunch of Soviet - block cars and bikes in the 80's like Lada (and Niva) Dacia, Skoda, Dnepr etc. All were total shit back then and failed miserably so thankfully they never got to the US.

I am not surprised if Hyosung tries to imitate the Hyundai business model. If we buy lots of them, they will go big into the US in a few years.

Well i remember one hysoung motorcycle that looked like an exact replica of an SV650. Only cheaper. Considering the 650 is pretty cheap as it is, i wouldnt want to know what corners they cut to put it out taht cheap...

if you take a close look at the hyosung, you'll see it has all the stuff found on really good bikes, only really crap versions.

eg: USD forks, 4 pot calipers, carbon exhaust.

all of this appeals to the newbies since they don't know any better.

I took a close look at the castings of the brakes and the forks. they had the mold line dags still attached! no effort to remove them at all

just goes to show ya. all the fun beasties are down under. we are supposed to have the most amount of deadly animals than any other country. and yet the tourists keep coming?!?!?!?!
I noticed in a Lonely Planet book, it mentioned the deadly Drop Bears. Just one more thing to scare the tourists.

I refuse to buy a product from any company who's name sounds like some kind of asian Karaoke.

My wife and I watched a show about the drop bears, and it made me laugh. On one account, some "witnesses" said they resemble rabid koala bears. Other people were saying they were 2 meters tall (that's about 6-1/2 feet for us Americans that refuse to go metric). I bet it's just Blayne trying to scare people wearing that horned helmet and an ape suit, :biggrin:.

I was just searching for info in the drop bears and i came across sooo much information. the scariest thing was a real website from for northern australia outlining each of the deadly species in that area. It had the usual, spiders, crocodiles, sharks, jelly fish and then it had birds!!!!! who the fuck has ever been killed by a bird!?!?!?!?!?!

That bird was on that show too (my wife and I watch way too many educational programs). They said they could be a decendent of the velaco-raptor dinosaur based on the huge dew-claws they have on their feet (which is what makes them deadly). The link on that web page to the drop bear picture is hilarious!
