I have a 2000 regal with a 3800 engine.
I went to start the engine in the morning and nothing. Two days in a row when I started the car the instrument gages went back and forth a couple of times and then the car started.
Does anybody have any idea what would cause the gages to act like this. I have not had any more problem with the gages.

How old is your battery? Low battery charge could cause it and cold weather conditions. I'd get it tested to include the charging system. Also, check the battery positive and negative cables and terminal connections.

the battery is old so I quess I will get a new one but what is the terminal connections? Is this the same as the positive and negative cables?

Sometmes - and I'm not saying this is your situation - but sometimes a battery is replaced when in fact the problem is (also) the alternator. A new battery can carry the load for a while, but if it's not being recharged by the alternator, your symptoms might appear. Sounds expensive, but that was my experience.

Yes. Where the battery positive and negative cables connect to the battery. If it is an AC Delco original or replacement battery the inner part of the terminals that the 8mm bolts go into have been known to come out so it doesn't hurt to check that. Also, the red lead that goes from the battery positive cable to the main engine compartment fuse box (top).

If you have an Autozone nearby they can test your battery and the alternator for free.

Took it to autozone and was told my battery is getting weak but was told the alternator is good. Thank you for a the help.
