will not startjerry1967 12-09-2008, 12:45 PM I have a 2000 buick regal with a 3800 engine. The last couple of days when I start the car all my gages would act up but then go back to normal. Now I cannot start the car at all. Could this be my battery or is it something else. brcidd 12-09-2008, 01:45 PM First step in a "No-Crank" is to check battery cable connections- wiggle one or both wires while someone holds key on "Start" see if that helps- do headlights come on bright? or dim in "Start" mode? jerry1967 12-09-2008, 02:01 PM I did that and they come on bright like nothing wrong. brcidd 12-09-2008, 02:16 PM Is the "security" light on instrument cluster on or flashing? while you turn key to start? jerry1967 12-09-2008, 02:22 PM Yes--- for the last couple of days the security light has been coming on when I start the car but then I turn it off and start again and the light doesn't come back. Does this indicate something? brcidd 12-09-2008, 02:38 PM After a failed start attempt- wait 4 minutes- clean the resistor pellet in the key real good- I usually wipe it on my pants leg - both sides- then try again- or try your other key- the BCM needs the proper resistance value of the pellet to enable the crank and fuel relays- a dirty key or ignition switch can alter the resistance read- this can be bypassed if you find this to be the no-crank issue. You will never be able to crank the starter if the security light is flashing- wait till it times out.... jerry1967 12-09-2008, 02:47 PM Are you saying wipe the key itself? Also what is BCM? brcidd 12-09-2008, 03:36 PM Yes, clean the key- the pellet is near the round end- The BCM (Body Control Module) is the car's body computer- that manages the theft deterrent functions as well as many other functions.... jerry1967 12-09-2008, 04:04 PM thank you- I went out and cleaned the key and jumped it with my other car and it turned over.Hope that was the problem. thank you very much vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
