2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Repairs (Transmission)CompManCB 12-08-2008, 03:00 AM I had a noise coming from my car's transmission. I took my 2002 Subaru Outback Sport to the dealership to check the noise and to perform a 90K service. My repair cost was over $5,000 including new rear bearings in my transmission. They neglected to fix the noise, but gave my car the okay. I took it back the next day because it was not fixed--the noise was still there and my car was driving worse than it was when I initially dropped it off. Upon further inspection they said that the clutch needed to be replaced. I paid for that as well. When I picked up my car the second time, the Subaru rep told me that my transmission's center bearings also needed to be replaced but that it'd cost $1,500. She said I should take my car to an independent shop to get this repair but that I could drive the car for a long time without getting the center bearings replaced, though I'd need to just deal with the noise. My question is, shouldn't the dealership replace the center bearings and comp the labor since they didn't catch this problem initially? Why should I pay for the labor?? They ran up a huge bill the first time yet did not find that the center bearings needed to be replaced when they had the transmission open? How can a Subaru-certified repair tech missing something like that? What do you think?? donkeyboy 12-10-2008, 11:16 AM this is why dealers suck! dealers and the techs that work there... tend not to take the time to find the problem... they jsut take stabs at it in hopes that they might find the problem... the problem with this is there ging to charge u 80 bucks an hour and price of parts... but when they dont fix the problem they are still going to charge u and try and tell you everything in the world to make you beleive they did the right thing... my suggestion... never go to the dealer unless u have a warrenty and they are going to cover the cost.. ask around and find a trusting local mechanic who isnt going to take your first born in exchange for an unfixed car vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
