ive got a 95 s10,replaced cluster with a 98 w/tach. was wondering how to make tach work.any advice is appreciated

Is your 95 a PCM or VCM computer system?

There is a lot of difference in the dash wiring between a 95 - 98 and also old computer or VCM computer.

Isn't the '98 cluster a different shape (oval) than the '95 (rectanglular)?

I put a '95 cluster in my '97, so I could have a tachometer (my '97 didn't have one), and it worked without any modifications. The wiring harness should have the tach wiring inclued.

This is my understanding;
Only '95 to '97s are interchangable.
Only '98 to 2001s are interchangable.

I don't know if it'll apply but the '97 manual shows one white wire coming from the engine bay (ignition coil & computer together) and going to the tach input of the Speedo/Tach Solid State Logic board. There's also a dark green/white wire going to the logic board from the VCM & computer together.

everything works except the tach,the cluster looks like the 95 except for the tack.

The VCM is the one on right front fender spron.
Under the water overflow tank.
Newer OBD11 type.
Older PCM isinside cab behind glove box area.

Both was used in 95.
