Squeeling Fan Belts - doubling up the pulleys

Just a crazy idea that came to me whilst I was cogitating (us older folk
"cogitate" - ponder, ruminate, reflect.....cerebralize while we fossilize).

Could one obtain an extra pulley for the Alternator, Water Pump and Drive
Shaft Pully (Main) and have them (expertly) welded on top of the pulley already there
in order to use TWO FAN BELTS ?

You could have the center removed from the outer pulley so that you could
get at the mounting bolt or nut.

Double up, as it were...

Buy the extras from a wrecking yard or "Pull-n-Save".

Would there be room to do it ?

All this instead of trying to put a wider fan belt and pulleys into there....

I really think that the squealing is a result of misaligned pulleys. Since I spent some time measuring and adding shim washers at the alternator I have had no trouble with noise, and do not have an insanely tight belt. It doesn't look like there is enough room, but I found that if I loosened the lower bolt, I could add shims above to align the pulleys. After tightening down, nothing has moved. Adding a second set of pulleys and belt would reduce the load on the first belt, but at least mine seemed to squeal when there was very little electrical load on the alternator. If both the belts were misaligned, it's possible that it would make more noise.

How would you be able to know if the Alternator Pulley was out of alignment?

If you lay a straight metal bar on the pulley, can you see misalignment?

Vertical versus horizontal - or toward the Main pulley?

Kind of like aligning the front wheels ?

I noticed that the belt kind of kinked, so I guessed at shim thickness and installed, then eyeballed again, re-adjusted, then tightened down. Sound gone. Ended up shimming the top of the alternator out about 3/16".
