so i was almost home, got to the last stop sign before getting home,a nice red cobra(had hood and bumper atleast),with e/t streets and a nice loud exhaust passes by.i immediately got on my car to catch up,i pull beside him and he floors it from about 40,he jumps a car and then i start pulling HARD by 100 i had 5-6 cars on him.then we stopped and he says "thought you got me huh" i said yea i guess,he then floors it without any notice,i floor mine and he jumps about a car,i was spinning badly,i let off caught traction and by 40 i was side by side with him,by 80 i was 5-6 on him so i just let off.we stopped and talked he said it was a 5.0 cobra with exhaust, intake, tune but he bought it an hour ago (he says anyways) and doesnt know if theres any other mods.

so idk if it was a real cobra or a gt with the cobra bumper and hood.if it was a real cobra shouldnt i have had my ass handed to me?

anyways sorry for bad grammar and being so long, just wanted to share.

Well first off how do you double post a thread? Second how the hell do you put the same distance on him by 80, the time you spun, as the time you didnt and got to 100?? That's just funny physics.

those 5.0's aren't all that, my 3.5 puts out more wheel hp than that motor puts out at the crank. and light mods to a GTP free up a lot of power.

Nice races. What do those year cobras have for hp?

240 at the motor, about 190-200 to the wheels, which is only like 40 hp per liter.

Oh no wonder you beat him. My car makes more at the wheels than the cobra does at the crank too! haha

Ive only ran it when it was stock with catt-back and then I only hit a 14.8 @99.4 mph with a crappy 2.45 sixty foot. I probably only had like 215-220 whp then though. I should be at about 250-255whp right now and should be able to hit mid-13's, but I guess I'll find out next year since the track is closed.

nah, once they started with the 4.6L they stepped it up a notch to 305hp.
was the car a fox body mustang or was it the new-ish looking body style?

not without traction... good trap time though. Can't wait till the tracks open again, 4 more months.

Ha that's why I said SHOULD be able tohit mid 13's...which means assuming i get traction...so more realistically a high 13, with a high trap haha

The first 4.6L mod motors in the SN95 (1996-2004) only made 260hp.

The basic Mustang 4.6L didn't break the 300hp barrier till 2005 with the SN195 body style.

the only 90's mustang s to go above 300 were cobra's, the basic v8(5.0/4.6) hit at most 265. 5.0 had closer to 215 than 240hp. the 6cyl was somewhere near 150(o boy). then there's the mighty cobra r, that i think had 385hp, much more respectable for a pony/muscle car, but that was far from a standard v8 mustang.

true, but i was referring to the DOHC 4.6L in the cobra's, that made 305hp. the SOHC motor in the GT's were rated at 260.

A friend of mine has the 03 Cobra SC, its not all that quick off the line due to traction issues.
I used to beat him all day long in my slightly modified 99 GA SE. But after he swapped out the stock pulley on the SC he's a lot quicker. :(

95 sytle stangs werent all that quick or fast without some mods.

Close, the Cobra R just had the 5.4L motor, not the s/c

Some mustang info for those who care... I spent a lot of time with mustangs and lots of time dreaming of the ones I wanted.

First off, 1987-1993 5.0 was 225 hp. Except for the 1993 Cobra which was rated to 235 hp. Once the body style changed the 5.0 was rated for 215 hp and the Cobra was rated for 240 (though the engines were identical to the previous years) The funny fact was that Cobra heads and intake were called GT40... not because they had anything at all to do with a GT40 but because they were supposed to add about 40 hp to the GT's rating. Most dyno's show those year cobras are really making about 260-270 hp.

Once 1996 rolled over and the first like of 4.6 motors rolled out it was sort of a drag. The GT had 215 hp but lacked the low end grunt of the 5.0. The Cobra really had even less grunt but the 4V heads made it pretty quick (300HP) It wasn't until 1999 that the GT had 260 hp (due to the PI heads mainly) and the Cobra had 320.

The Cobra R was only made a few years and in very limited quantity. The 2000 is the one everyone thinks about and it did have a 5.4 liter motor. It also had 4v Heads which from my understanding even the blown lightning does not have. There were only 300 made and all were spoken for before they were even built. I did sit in one at a dealer (used but only as a show car) and if you hate the interior of the SN95 mustang, you will choke when you see this car. It has no back seat and only a piece of cloth to hide the trunk hole, no AC, and no other real features, the owners manual does tell you how to set the car up for different kind of races though... pretty cool.

Lastly, who ever said the 03 cobra is not quick is crazy. I have driven the car and it will make your hairs on your arms stand up. The thing has crazy torque, a way better feel than the other mustangs, and is a legitimate 12 second car (high 12s usually).

My buddy had a 1994 Cobra with full exhaust cold air intake, aluminum flywheel, a shifter and some springs and he was running mid 13's all day in Maryland, I am not questioning one losing to a GTP, but they are nothing to scoff at....... UNLESS YOU HAVE AN LS1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
