Temperature Guage 2004 Venture

My temperature gauge does not reset to cold when engine cools overnight then starts registering from that point the next day. Eventually the gauge pegs far past the red line. Problem is solved for awhile if positive battery terminal is removed or if the key is turned on and off several times. Any ideas where to start?

Check the coolant temp sensor for a loose/broken wire. Perhaps the sensor has failed.

Any code?

I had this exact same problem on my 2004 Venture. To fix it I had to replace the stepper motor in the instrument cluster, part was only about $10 on Ebay. If you are handy soldering and de-soldering, it is an easy repair. If you need more info, just PM me.
