Code P1491 gives me: EGR valve Lift Insufficient Detected-05.

Did you test your EGR? I think you suppose to hook it to a hand pump and at 10 units your engine suppose to die.

Your problem also might be a vacuum leak.

If you need to replaced it, I think that you will need a new gasket for a new valve. Probably a carburetor cleaner or some kind of solvent to clean the ports as well.

Good luck,

Sam

Somick, the pump you refer to is a vacuum pump And the idea is to draw a vacuum on the EGR valve to see if the diaphram is leaking which could cause an insufficient lift of the valve. (To do the test, you also need a gage to see if the valve will hold a vacuum) Also pulling a lift on the valve and the engine dying indicates that the valve is opening and the EGR ports into the intake manifold are open. If testing the valve indicates that it is working properly, then the problem could be a leakey vacuum hose, bad solenoid or a bad EGR sensor.
