A friend of my father has an 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am which he is restoring. It's nearly completed now.

A year and a half ago he asked my dad if I could make a model of his car. I searched on the internet and found a AMT 69 Firebird. He bought it and painted it the same colour as his own real car. After that he gave it back to me and I must complete the build.

Here are some pics of his real car:

I will make a sort of replica from it. It wil have some little details like sparkplugwire and some other small details.

Unfortunatally he painted it a bit to thick. Now some panellines are a bit gone. For him it's not a problem so I'll leave it as it is.

Here is the kit I use and some pics of the painted parts.

With some work I'll try to replicate his car. I think it's a great muscle car :)

I'll try to finish it with christmas, so I can give it as a gift

Off to an excellent start--I owned a '69 myself, for a while. Had to sell it to move to London Ontario--I miss it. :(

Off to a great start--I don't suppose he's in Southwestern Ontario? His Firebird looks awfully familiar....

It's a Firebird but not a Trans Am; '69s only came in white with the blue stripes. Terrific project you have there though! I'm sure you'll do your usual excellent job on it! :sunglasse

This week I started with the windowtrims. It was hard to do, because the panellines were gone, so I cutted the bmf with my steady hand... :D

I also added the front and taillights, the grille and the windows.

The upscripts on the body were painted chrome, but again the thick paintjob filled up the letters.

The thrunk panelline is just made with a panelmarker. First I masked the line with thin maskingtape and after that I marked the panelline. The other panellines were also painted this way.

The rearspoiler is also placed. This one was just straight, and the trunk isn't straight so I heated the spoiler with a paint burner and bend it a bit.

I also placed the tacho on the hood.

The original wheels in the kit were awfull, so i searched for others. I found some wheels which looks very simillar to the real wheels. I gave them a wash also.

On to the engine.

I didn't detailed it, except for the sparkplugwires.

A couple days ago I finished the body of the car. While I was waiting for drying the glue on the rearbumper, I noticed that there was a big glue drup on the door. I tryed to remove it, but it was a hard job. After polishing the body I was able to remove much glue but there is a little place visible....

Meanwhile I also painted the interior already. First I painted it semigloss black. (looks like gloss black on the pics) Than I did some chrome striping and I added black interiorflocking.

I also started on the chassis. First I painted it semigloss black. Than I placed the already chassis parts together. The exhaust is painted with a metalizer paint. This paint needs to be polished with a cotton and you will get a metall shine on it.
I also placed the wheels on the chassis.

No wheatering this time, because the real car hasn't drove any meter yet :D
