1991 Accord LX fuel pump?renchhednot 11-22-2008, 08:00 AM I may need to replace the fuel pump on my '91 lx. The first time starting it cold it will not fire. After maybe one or two times turning the key, it will pop but not fire. Sometimes I need to turn it over 10 to as many as 20 times before it will pop and fire and stay running. The coil was replaced. It starts fine after running and then shut off. I would have the fuel pump tested but dont know what the pressure rating is. Can anyone help?:banghead::banghead: mpumas 11-22-2008, 02:13 PM The fuel pump pressure should be about 36 psi. Although the pump can put out more then that it is regulated at 36 psi by the fuel pressure regulator so it doesn't burst hoses etc. Usually the fuel pump works or doesn't. If it doesn't, the problem may be the main relay or the pump. If flow is a problem, look to the fuel filter as a problem. Difficult starting could be caused by spark plugs, spark plug wires, igniter, and, strange as it may seem, the coolant temp sensor according to Honda. renchhednot 11-22-2008, 04:25 PM Mpumas- I thought either the fuel pump worked or not, too. So why would it start fine when warm and not want to fire at all when cold? I read where you can jump terminals 5 and 7 in the main fuse box to test it. But it does work when warm. Should I maybe do a test on the fuel pump relay? Or I can test the igniter? I will check fuel filter and get back if not fixed. mpumas 11-23-2008, 01:47 AM When you say start, what do you mean? The pump or the engine? What works when it is warm, the pump or the engine?? As for the fuel pump, it is located in the tank. Some say you can hear it run for a couple of seconds when you first turn the key on. I don't know. Maybe if you took off the gas cap and listened at the filler you might be able to hear it. The igniter can be tested by hooking up a light between the igniter and coil and see if it pulses when the engine is turned over. You need to remove the wire that hooks up between the coil and the igniter and hookup a wire between the removed wire and the igniter. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
