Hey all:

I've noticed a loud whining noise coming from the front of my vehicle when I start to make turns soon after starting up the car. The loud whining will last for approximately 5-10 minutes before it stops (it only makes a noise when I turn. The power steering is still in working order. I checked the fluid today, which was hard to find, and it looked fine. What possibly could be the diagnosis here? Thanks all.

PS pump may need replacing. This whining noise is usually the first warning!

Hmm. What does a power steering pump cost? Can I install this bad boy myself?

Thanks

Hey,

Turns out I was a little lower on fluid than I thought. I went and picked up a 12 oz bottle of power steering fluid. It took everything but about an ounce. I was sure not to over fill it as well. Hopefully this will stop the whining.

You must have a leak somewhere, it would be wise to have that checked.

Is there any way that I could have just been low on fluid? I bought the car 4 years ago and haven't touched it since now. The car only has 108,000 on in.

Maybe, just drive around for a while and see if it continues to make the noise. But the pump can't burn the oil, so it must be leaking.
