Why won't my car shift? I swapped the tranny already!

98 Ford Contour, SE V6 Auto

So this weekend I finally got around to get this contour running. Sothis car runs, but with a grind sound coming from the flywheel. It runs in drive for about 10mph and then disengages completely. In second gear, it will actually run up to about 35 or 40mph without shifting out of that gear but running at about 36oorpms! I took to a tranny shop and they told me that the tranny had to rebuilt for $2200. Now, I just got it back from meineke (half a block from my house)and a tech there told me he could fix an electrical issue for $200. He said that it was all it needed, and that the tranny shop wanted to screw me out of money.

So what does a meineke guy know more than a tranny shop? They both drove the car and that's how they quoted me. What do you think? Could it just be some solenoids? If so, how hard would they be to replace?

Thanks,
Joe

i think i would stick with tranny shop unless you get it in writing that $200.00 will fix it or you don't pay.if it's grinding somthing is very wrong. i don't just see a wire making it grind.

I was refering to the nonshifting problem as electrical as my speedometer doesn't run either. The grinding, um.....I think its a dust shield.
