1999 Escort will not turn over...southbayabrams 11-18-2008, 12:25 PM Car has been running fine. I have had trouble with the electrical but it has been fixed. Now the car will not turn over. I filled the car with 2 gallons of premium gas on Friday and drove it home. Everything sounded fine. I did not drive it over the weekend and when i went to start it Monday morning it would not turn over. All of the electrical works. It just will not turn over. Do I need new spark plugs? My brother seems to think it is a fuel problem. I took the hose off the fuel pump (the hose that connects directly to the engine) I then tried to start the car and pumped on the gas. My brother seems to think that gas would be squirting out of the fuel pump and nothing was coming out. He think it may be clogged or simply not working. What should I do? Email me the solution..... JARREDZ@SOUTHBAYABRAMS.COM THANKS!!! Airjer_ 11-18-2008, 01:04 PM When you say that the car will not turn over you are describing the symptom where when you turn the key to the crank position absolutely nothing happens. You will not hear the starter turning over the engine. You may or may not hear the clicking of the starter solenoid. If this is the case, spark plugs and fuel pumps have nothing to do with it! I think what you are trying to describe is what is referred to as a "crank no start". You turn the key, you hear the starter turning the engine over but the engine will not start. If this is the case and you have no fuel coming out of the fuel line than the next step is to see if there is power at the pump. If there is than the pump has likely gone bad (I'm guessing that it is common for you to put in a couple of dollars here and there and the tank is normally pretty low which is really hard on the fuel pumps). Proper terminology is really important. Saying "the car will not turn over" implies that there is a problem with the starting circuit (battery, starter, ignition switch) which I don't think is your problem! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
