Am I insane??? Ok I LOVE the Acura ARX-1b, got to sit in one today(Patron Highcroft). I am thinking a BIG scratch build. Base it off a Revell Audi R10. Could it be done??? Is it a waste of time???(Have plenty of it to waste:grinyes:)

Thanks!

Austin

well, it depends on what are you referring to when you say insane...

also, the scratchbuilding level you're talking about. maybe you should spend some time looking around in the forum to see how the others are doing those insane builds!

first, show us some pics on what that ARX look like...then i'll tell you if it's insane or not.

welcome to the mad mod club!

yeah, your insane, the Acura is a pretty complex chassis. a LMM Pescarolo/Courage chassis would be a much better base as the Acura Chassis is a Courage chassis will some upgrades

Looks like insanity is taking over.. Hello Austin , hello Steve, funny the way how idea's seem to hang in the air and get picked up by different minds in different places simultaniously.

We (a group of Dutch Modelcar racers) will have to build a couple of Acura bodies for the European Endurance (slotrace) Championship.
We already did the Peugeot, the Audi and the RS Spyder, work on modifying thye old Profil24 MG into the new Lola is in progress...but...the Acura...that one has been nagging us for a long time.

This is more than just slightly modifying a kit, this is almost like making a complete new master....and yes we also found that the LLM Courage will be the best starting point.

Our problem is...with the car only being raced over in the States its hard for us to drive to a race, do the pitwalk, talk to the team and take good pictures and measurements. However Austin, yopu said you actually sat in one of them... want to pool resources ?

You get us the info and we'll send you a copy of the master
(the master's we make for our GRP body is basicaly a curbside model)

i know the stuff we do usually gets banned to the Slotcar forum, but as far as the body is concerned we are pure modellers ;)

Here are some Photos I took at Lime Rock. The Acura ARX-01B is based off the LMP2 Courage LC75 tub, while the Pescarolo is based off the old rules Courage C60 LMP900, though I am unaware of any LC75's in 1/24 scale, so the Pescarolo will probably be your best bet.

Franck Montagny in the Andretti Green Acura.

Gil de Ferran in the de Ferran Acura

These chassis have many complex curves and components so it will be a pretty monumental task. Good luck!

Owning 2 1/1 Acuras(RL and RDX), and being a HUGE ALMS Acura fan, I say GO FOR IT!!

Also, anyone see where Acura is going to start LMP1 as well?!? :D

Me, I'm still holding out hope that Acura will win LMP1 or 2 soon, and Studio 27 will put out a model. ;)

Imagine a closed top Acura LMP1!!!!

Ok guys, don't know what's going on here. When I post the pic's they show, in preview post they shom even in the posted thread they show.

And then when you refresh the page...they're gone.
Sometimes picassa's structure isn't to nice for parsing links, so I have uploaded some of the pic's to our server...see if this works.

Both the Acura and the Lola Masters were made to make GRP copies for slotrace bodies, and only a very limited run (2 Lola's and 4 Acura's) will be made.

But you can always contact Nick and see if he would like to do more copies. It's not Studio27 quality, but hey it sure beats building a body form scratch ;)

BTW all cars (both Lola's and the Acura's) will have to run next weekend so I'll see if I can make some pictures of the finished cars.

How do I get one? I was SO excited when I saw those photos. Tell them though that the rear lights need to be round.

Tell them though that the rear lights need to be round.
hello Austin

Yes you are correct that the shape of the rear fenders is not intirely correct, but they're not exactly round (see pic below...I hope)

The rear fenders have been widened for slotracing purposes (On the left you need xtra space for the crowngear and for symmitry the right fender was widened as well)
It's a small price to pay to go from static display to an actual racing model :naughty:

Hello Guys

Here are the first pics of the finished Acura's.
Take a good and fast looks as I'm guesing they'll be banned to the slotcar forum in less then no time :evillol:

As mentioned before the Acura's needed to be ready for the opening round of the 1/24 EEC and slotrace endurance championship based on ALMS/ ELMS cars

Here's the grid

Nah, no "ban" here, Tamar. Totally relevant to the thread and some great looking work to boot. Based on the Carrera Porsche chassis, I'd wager?

And the slot car forum wouldn't be so bad if you guys who built 'em posted in there. I'm pretty curious about that track you run on. What's the layout? MTT? UK Black?

Posts don't get banned- they get moved. Members who break rules get banned. :grinyes:

But the post is of course a relevant contribution to the topic. No worries. ;)

Oh...yeah.... that's true, I forgot you actually do know some stuff about slotcars ;)

For what the track is concerned, you are spot on, its an MTT, a brand new one that has been build for thye 2007 IMCA worlds.
A similar type of track (MTT with some mods) is now under construction for the 2009 worlds which will take place in Toronto in July.

The chassis how ever are not modified Carrera's...far from it
The LMP's are the "most" technically developed class in modelcar racing and has a free chassis rule.
Some still use production chassis like those from Plafit, Motor modern, Metris and Schöler, but the real competitive guys use lots of modified parts up to the point that they produce their own chassis.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_o_MIH4g7bHM/SYTY4e7n7lI/AAAAAAAAclI/dOLBs-_53hM/s800/DSC00741.JPG

But I won't go in to detail any further, otherwise, moving this topic to the slot's would be justifiable ;) and I do post my stuff there as well.

But back to modelling, Gabriel poured a copy of the master to which we will make some minor adjustments and sharpen up some detailing.
I'll update you guys when there is some progress.

I know the track that the 2009 Worlds will be hosted on personally, because if I'm not mistaken it's the Eurotoy MTT that was bought from my home track in Amherst, Ohio to make room for our oval!

http://www.imca-slotracing.com/images/MTT87-04.jpg

I loved this track with a passion and notched 9 wins for 4.5inch flexi-chassis cars on it last summer and 1 win in 4inch Falcon-Retro cars.
