Lower Control Armanthony651 11-10-2008, 10:36 PM I am in need of some help. I got the control arm off but the metal part part of the front bushing is rusted on where it connects and I can't get it off i have tried everything, WD-40, pipe wrench, vise grip, you name it i have tried it. so if anyone can help me i would appreciate it. Woodie83 11-11-2008, 05:09 AM Get some penetrating fluid like Kroil or PB Blaster, WD-40 is not a good penetrating oil. Also, heat will help, hitting it with a propane torch will heat up the sleeve at a different rate than the pin. That whole arm comes off with two big bolts, you might have better luck more comfortably standing in front of it, clamped in a vise. A chisel might be able to cut that sleeve releasing the rust seal or a Dremel with a cutting wheel, either way be careful not to cut a groove into the pin. Worst case scenario: 1stChevyParts.com shows the part for about $60 shipped. https://www.1stchevyparts.com/partscat.html anthony651 11-11-2008, 05:26 PM Well I have tried to take off the 2 bolts but I stripped 2 sockets trying to do so... CoolasIce 11-11-2008, 06:39 PM What brand sockets?:loser: anthony651 11-11-2008, 07:33 PM one was a snap-on and the other was a matco, but i dont think it really matters what kind i used Scrapper 11-11-2008, 07:39 PM see if you can get one at sears craftmans and mack tools all i use. and if you heat with hand torch anymore spray it while its hot it will suck the penatraiting oil in. anthony651 11-11-2008, 07:53 PM ya i seen what happens when you do it wrong and the bolt snaps off. i dont need that happening Scrapper 11-11-2008, 08:06 PM i didn't mean a big tourch use the little hand help propane just get little warm and spray when they do start to lossen up go back and forth on them. doug7x 11-11-2008, 10:49 PM I used a hand grinder & just ground away the sleeve. (my new arms came with a new sleeve...be sure yours do before destroying the old one) anthony651 11-15-2008, 04:25 PM I got it off i bought a map gas/oxy torch from menards and i just cut right through the sleeve and didnt even disturb the pin Scrapper 11-16-2008, 11:57 PM so you did use and hand torch and it worked for you? glad to hear it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
