In my 1996 Escort LX my rear defrost switch is broken, and I want to get an aftermarket illuminated rocker switch. I beleive there is a 5-wire terminal for the stock switch. Does anyone have a wiring color code for this switch's terminal. I'd like to find out where to hook up wire from aftermarket switch to the terminal.
thanks

There are 5 terminals on the stock switch. They are the red with black stripe which power comes into the switch to illuminate it and a red wire which goes to the dimming rheostat. The third wire is a black which is grounded to illuminate the on indicator for the rear defroster. The 2 wires that you need to actually turn on the defroster are a black with white stripes and a black with dark blue stripes. The black with white stripes comes from the fuse panel and is the hot side for the switch you are going to put on. The black with dark blue stripes is the wire running to the rear defroster.

Excellent Dave...thanks a million. The rocker switch I have is from Radio Shack, and is for 12v autos, and is rated for 30 amps (Escort defrost circuit is 20 amps). The switch has 3 terminals....GND, LOAD, and PWR, I will connect the GND to a vehicle ground, and the other two terminals will go to the 2 wires that you indicated.
thanks again
