The alternator on my fiesta is underneath on drivers side. i have managed to put the new alternator on but I feel stupid because the alternator doesn't seem to have a tension bar on it to put the belt back on. can anyone tell me where I can release the tension to get the belt back on. please please help me someone, it's driving me mad.

The Fiestas made for the U.K. are different from those that were produced in the U.S. However, there should be either a spring loaded tensioner that you attatch a 3/8 inch rachet that can be pulled back on to put the belt or a slotted piece that the alternator rotates on to put the belt back on and then tensioned. If you don't have that spring loaded tensioner with a smooth pulley that automaticaly tensions the belt, you have the one that tightens the belt by rotating the alternator. Loosen all the bolts on the alternator to figure out how to rotate it to give you enough room to put the belt on it and then once the belt is on rotate it til you have about 1/4 inch of deflection in the belt, then tighten the alternator bolts..
