89 B350 Help!!!!The Other Guy 11-09-2008, 11:51 PM 5.9 360 TBI electronic distributor no vacum advance Started out about 2 weeks ago and ran out of gas started stumbling under load after getting more fuel so replaced fuel filter didnt work and got worse adventually broke down and can't barely go over 15mph so the fun begins fixing it heres a list of parts replaced in order fuel filter rebuilt injectors Catylitic Converter fuel pressure regulator fuel pump 14lbs of pressure at TB distributor (made a difference but still stumbled) ECM O2sensor and brand new injectors ran awesome for about 60 miles and now it starts and has a couple second delay then has power loss to fuel pump at least you can hear the fuel pump relay (I believe that is the relay name or the safety one) clicking on and off we bypassed this and no change it power on then power off in about 2-3 second intervals I am stumped and looking towards ignition switch could use some major help here alloro 11-10-2008, 09:34 AM Have you blown out the fuel lines? With running out of gas you could've sucked some gunk off the bottom of the tank which is restricting the flow of fuel in the line. I see that you're getting 14 psi at idle, but under load that pressure could drop off and starve the engine if the fuel line is restricted. Also, did you change the fuel pump before or after this problem came up? The Other Guy 11-10-2008, 02:29 PM Have you blown out the fuel lines? I see that you're getting 14 psi at idle, but under load that pressure could drop off and starve the engine if the fuel line is restricted. Also, did you change the fuel pump before or after this problem came up? in line fuel pressure gauge is installed we are getting a power loss to injectors, spark, and fuel pump at the least the voltage at the battery goes from 12-13 vlts as it runs and dies you can hear the fuel pump relay going on and off we tested the alternator off the vehicle at the local auto parts store and tested very good now could a clog in the fuel line cause a power loss ? can the pickup in the remanned distributor be bad and causing a power loss to injectors, spark, and fuel pump because we can see the power shutting off to the fuel pump on and off in 2-3 second intervals? I have ordered a warrantied distributor but will not have it untill tomorow. Thanks For Your Time, Nate P.S. I changed the fuel pump after running out of gas vince2010 11-10-2008, 03:34 PM 5.9 360 TBI electronic distributor no vacum advance Started out about 2 weeks ago and ran out of gas started stumbling under load after getting more fuel so replaced fuel filter didnt work and got worse adventually broke down and can't barely go over 15mph so the fun begins fixing it heres a list of parts replaced in order fuel filter rebuilt injectors Catylitic Converter fuel pressure regulator fuel pump 14lbs of pressure at TB distributor (made a difference but still stumbled) ECM O2sensor and brand new injectors ran awesome for about 60 miles and now it starts and has a couple second delay then has power loss to fuel pump at least you can hear the fuel pump relay (I believe that is the relay name or the safety one) clicking on and off we bypassed this and no change it power on then power off in about 2-3 second intervals I am stumped and looking towards ignition switch could use some major help here Sounds like a wire shorting out the computer. I had a fatigue failure on my Solenoid Control Connector. I missed the short since the connector was covered in ATF fluid and dirt. Another wire was wearing through on top of the transmission. Another problem was a bad positive battery feed cable in the Power distribution box causing power shortages throughout the van.:icon16: Had my tooth pulled today. I replaced a bunch of parts too. alloro 11-10-2008, 04:38 PM in line fuel pressure gauge is installed we are getting a power loss to injectors, spark, and fuel pump at the least the voltage at the battery goes from 12-13 volts as it runs and dies you can hear the fuel pump relay going on and off we tested the alternator off the vehicle at the local auto parts store and tested very good Sorry about the confusion. When you talked about power loss I took it as a loss in engine power, not a loss of electrical power. In 89 there is no separate fuel pump relay, all of the power for the fuel pump, the PCM, and ultimately the ignition/injectors runs through the ASD relay. I suspect this is the relay you've located that is cycling on and off. The first thing you need to do is probe the coil wires (DB and DB/Y) of this relay and see if the power is steady or if it's cycling. If it's steady you have a bad ASD relay. If it's cycling you could have a bad PCM, ignition switch, or a shorting/broken wire. The Other Guy 11-10-2008, 10:20 PM Sorry about the confusion.
