My daughter's car died and will not start. Tried to diagnose thr problem using this forum and Alldatadiy.com. Getting no fuel pressure at the fuel filter applied battery voltage to the fuel pump and the fuel pump runs. Checked the ECU B+ voltage was at 12V. Checked the fuel pump circuit by grounding the FC terminal at he ECU and fuel pump runs. Replaced ECU with one from the salvage yard no changes. If anyone has any experience with this sort of problem I would appreciate your advice.

If your pump runs and you still not getting fuel presure it points out to a bad fuel pump.
Did you try fuel gauge when you powered your pump directly?

Did you try www.camrystuff.com? They suppose to have the diagnostics procedures for fuel pump as well as for ECU.

Good luck,

Sam

Don't have a banjo fitting needed to attach a gauge at the fuel pump but I did squeeze the line off and felt the fuel run through the line when the fuel pump was running. Thanks for the link I will check it out.

You're not getting fuel at the filter but you're feeling fuel run through a line - where?

I feel fuel run between the filter and the engine only when the fuel pump circuit is grounded at the ECU. Failed to check it when the pump was wired direct.

This is only a stab but, if equipped I'm wondering if the engine immobilizer system may be engaged. I believe it cuts power to the fuel pump and am guessing by not supplying the ground you're missing from the ECM. You can read up on it in the factory maintenence manual found in the "Factory Service Manual" thread at the top of the forum. Look under "diagnostics" on pages 919-937.

Have you checked for fault codes?

I've really made a mess of things now.I was trying to test circuits and left the ignition switch on and now the battery is dead. I only have a cheap charger which will take a while to recharge the battery. In the mean time I will check out the anti theft circuit diagram in the service manual and the fault codes when I gat the battery recharged.
